Dear Sir,
the Colonies,
I hereby make application for War compensation due to the loss of my personal effects during the last War.
The loss was sustained while a passenger on board s. s. "Nankin" bound for India from Sydney.
The s.s. "Nankin" was stopped by a German Raider on Sunday, May 10, 1942 when approximately 1200 miles off Fremantle, and I and the other passengers were transferred on board the Raider on the afternoon of the same date.
I boarded the German Prison
ship, s.s. "Regensburg" from the Raider on Thursday, May 14, 1942.
On Sunday, May 31, 1942 we me t
another German Prison ship, m.v. "Dresden" and were transferred to this vessel at about 10 p.m. on the above date. arrived at Yokohama by the m.v. "Dresden"

We were transferred to s.s. "Ramses", which vessel was moored alongside one of the wharves, on the 3rd July, 1942.
On July 10, 1942 we were taken off s.s. "Ramses" and transferred by bus to Railway Station at Yokohama and entrain- ed for Tokio where we changed trains for Fukushima, which place we arrived in the morning of the 11th July and was taken to The Congregational of Notre Dame which place proved to be our home until our release in September, 1945.
When I left the s.s. "Nankin"
I was only allowed to take the bare necessities with the result that all my other luggage was lost.
If there are any form or forms to be filled in in connection with this application for War compensation, I shall be grateful if you will send them to me to the address at the beginning of this letter.
Awaiting your reply,
I am,
Yours faithfully,
